  • Exorcized the demons of our 15th and 3rd place finishes the previous two years
  • Among other dog related prizes, won “Daddy Puppy” stuffed animal without which Luke cannot sleep

Low-lights:

  • None, my dog and I won the Puppy Race

Thanks:

  • To Barbara Rushman and company for putting on what is easily my favorite race each year
  • To Shannon for watching Luke during the race
  • To Eli for sticking with me through my struggles in our inaugural Puppy Race and trusting that it would all come together with a win one of these years

  • Finally got a Superhero Half in under 1:30
  • Luke attending an event at which it was socially acceptable to dress as Superman
  • Out-kicked at 20 year old in the final quarter mile

Low-lights:

  • Still not quite a half-marathon PR, 22 year old Scott retains the belt
  • Pretty sure Dylan had a cold and would rather have been in bed

  • Shannon for once again schlepping the kids to a local race
  • John and Peg for kid-watching assistance and post-race, lake-side hospitality

Peasantman Triathlon Half Marathon

Highlights:

  • Finally found a local distance event that coincided with our vacation to Keuka Lake
  • Found a relay partner willing to do all the swimming and biking
  • Run course passed by our vacation house, probably the easiest viewing experience Shannon has ever had

Low-lights:

  • Kim’s double flat tire on the bike course
  • It was a little hot out there, kind of blew up on the second lap
  • Passed by our house and the beer contained within four times during the half marathon

Thanks:

  • The Paton family for allowing another vacation to be hijacked by a running event
  • Kim for taking the two hard legs of the tri
  • The Peasantman team for putting on a fantastic event in the perfect location on the perfect weekend

GO! St. Louis Marathon

Highlights:

  • Successfully took two small children, got on a plane, flew to St. Louis, did a bunch of stuff and flew back home…with a slight assist from Bill and Marge
  • Brought it in under 3:20, fourth fastest marathon of my career
  • Shannon and I simultaneously conquered our respective fears of tight spaces and heights, got to the top of the Arch.

Low-lights:

  • Luke’s emergency pee break on the bushes under the Gateway Arch, possible desecration of a U.S. National Historic Landmark
  • Luke’s inability to appreciate the pageantry of the Cardinals’ opening day
  • Luke’s emergency poop on the return flight, definite desecration of airplane bathroom

Thanks:

  • To Bill and Marge for funding a large portion of the trip and helping out with the kids
  • To both the boys for sleeping on the plane
  • To Peg and John for another fine trip to / from Newark airport plus a home-cooked dinner upon our return
